The Health and Social Care Degree That Helps You Progress Your Dream Career

The health and social care sector has many diverse careers, with a whole range of progression opportunities available. Choosing to progress your career with a health and social care degree will enable you acheive the job role you’ve always dreamed of.

So whether you’re looking to progress your health and social care career or get that promotion you deserve, our degree will set you on the path to achieving those ambitions.

 

Adult Nurse

To excel in a career in nursing, you need to be passionate about the health and welfare of your service users. You’ll need to be able to plan for person-centred care, have an understanding of the science behind nursing, and even have an aptitude for leadership.

Our Foundation Degree Professional Practice in Health and Social Care covers all the essential sciences for person-centred care, as well as holistic assessment and delivery of health and social care interventions.

What's more, you’ll also learn to interpret evidence that’ll inform your practice, leadership and management skills, and how to promote health, well-being, and independence. All of these things will mean that upon successful completion of your foundation degree, suitable candidates may gain direct entry into the second year of a BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing course, which will ultimately open your career opportunities up to include community nursing, surgical nursing, accident and emergency care, health service management, and many more.

 

Social Worker

In order to progress in your social work career, you’ll need to be an expert in working with children, families, and vulnerable adults. Essential skills include collaboration, innovative thinking, resilience, and leadership.

When you study our Foundation Degree Professional Practice in Health and Social Care, you’ll master a whole host of reflection and personal development skills, as well as leadership and management skills - and you’ll also bank at least 200 hours of work-based learning over two years, setting you up for a successful and progressive career.

Once you’ve completed this degree, you may be able to jump straight into the second year of a BA (Hons) Social Work degree, which will set you up for a future career in the local authority, in independent and third sector organisations, or even in voluntary organisations.

 

Physiotherapist

For a thriving career in physiotherapy, you’ll need to have a firm understanding of exercise and the human body, allowing you to help injured, ill, and disabled people.

It’s important to master cardiovascular respiratory, musculoskeletal, and neurological physiotherapy, as well as case management and leadership skills.

As a student on our Foundation Degree Professional Practice in Health and Social Care, you’ll set yourself up for mastery of all these skills and more, thanks to the units in work-based learning, science, leadership and management, and health, well-being and independence. Suitable candidates will then have the skills and experience needed to apply for the second year of a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree, which will make a variety of careers available in the NHS, education, professional sport, research, and much, much more.

 

Radiographer

Diagnostic radiography is a career that requires a number of specific skills. To progress your career in this field, you’ll need to be able to effectively use research and evidence, whilst collaborating with an array of other healthcare professionals. You’ll need to understand imaging practice and science, as well as evidencing and enquiring within your practice.

Upon completion of our Foundation Degree Professional Practice in Health and Social Care, you’ll have built up over 200 hours of suitable work-based learning in a health and social care setting, as well as learnt the fundamentals of using evidence to inform your practice. All of this knowledge will allow suitable candidates to gain direct entry into the second year of a BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography degree, which will build on these skills to allow you to develop your career within the NHS or private hospitals across the country and beyond.

 

Occupational Therapist

To develop your career in occupational therapy, you’ll need to progress your expertise in well-being, management, and case complexity, whilst also being skilled in collaboration, creativity, and leadership. You’ll also need plenty of on-the-job experience to develop these skills and your knowledge of the industry.

Our Foundation Degree Professional Practice in Health and Social Care not only covers leadership and management, but also health, well-being and independence, and how to inform your practice through using evidence. Work-based learning will also enable you to learn on the job, through real life experience in a health and social care setting. This will set you up for a strong foundation, as once completed, suitable candidates may gain direct entry straight into the second year of a BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy degree, which would allow you to progress in an occupational therapy, teaching, or research career within the NHS, schools, private practices, charities, and a number of other organisations.

 

Paramedic

To build a successful career in paramedic science, you’ll need to learn to be quick on your feet and thrive under pressure as you assess and treat patients at the scene of an emergency. You’ll need to understand anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, as well as paediatrics and obstetrics, whilst also continually developing your well-being, leadership, and evidencing skills.

Our Foundation Degree Professional Practice in Health and Social Care covers many of the building blocks of these essential skills, from science for person-centred care and evidencing findings to inform practices, to personal development skills and leadership.

Once completed, suitable candidates may gain direct entry into the second year of a BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree, which would allow you to develop your career in critical care, research, private practice, wilderness medicine, ambulance trusts, and many more.
